Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico keeps away from the closure of mines.
The mines in the Upper Nitra are not to be closed down and they will continue their operation, Prime Minister Robert Fico is convinced. “I have no information on the closure of the mines. In my opinion, it is some nonsense. I absolutely deny any allegations on the closure of mines and I have nothing to do with this,“ Fico emphasized at the press conference on Monday. He underlined that the region of Upper Nitra needs also the development of other types of the industry in addition to mining. Presently, the general economic interest is in effect in Slovakia under which all electricity consumers support the national coal mining for the electricity generation at the coal-fired power plant in Novaky via their electricity bills. Consumers pay roughly 90 million euros a year for this general economic interest valid until 2030.
