BRATISLAVA, August 17, (WEBNOVINY) – Opposition SNS Deputy Chairman Andrej Danko says that the behavior of SMER-SD Chairman Robert Fico is the result of pressure from European Socialists. “He can’t admit that foreign socialists have exercised such pressure on him that he has to give up his political beliefs and social conscience for Slovak citizens on behalf of instructions from abroad,” wrote Danko in his statement for the media this Wednesday.
Danko disagrees with Fico’s statement that countries that do not support extending the European Financial Stability Facility deserve being ousted to the periphery of the euro zone. He also criticizes the fact that Fico is claiming the right to pursue a dialogue for himself even though he is only chairman of his own party without any function in the Cabinet. “Even thought Robert Fico does not hold power, he summons representatives of political parties in order to humiliate the Cabinet and put on a populist theatrical act, not a constructive solution. He’s only been interpreting the views of foreign socialists. Yet, in fact, he’s not capable of political dialogue. […] He only attacks other political opinions, which is not politically far-sighted in the event that he would once decide to sincerely pursue a dialogue,” Danko added.
According to their vice chairman, the SNS prefers to maintain both the euro zone and the EU and they do not definitely rule out extending the stability mechanisms. They, however, also demand that people receive similar salaries throughout the EU. “Today the EU is unable to harmonize salaries, pensions and payroll levies so that everyone who works in the EU in certain position would have similar income. The EU offers neither solutions nor punishment for wasteful countries, it is therefore only a diseased mechanism,” Danko said.
He also hopes that Slovakia will never again experience a period when one political party and one dictator rule the country. “The socialists, unfortunately, like misusing any political issue for class struggle and they often do not admit their failures,” closed Danko.
