BRATISLAVA, December 14, (WEBNOVINY) — Opposition parliamentary SNS party appeals to those in government to open the Treaty of Accession to the EU. The party’s first Deputy Chairman Andrej Danko claims EU regulations are responsible for destroyed Slovak industry, agriculture and other areas. He, however, did not mention which provisions in the treaty exactly should be changed. “If the EU is unable to get rid of problematic eurozone countries and cut loose from them, then we have to reassess the entire system of the EU. Some processes are outdated, they need to be reconsidered. And above all at this time of crisis,” wrote Danko in his statement for the media.
According to Danko, the fact that the EU is unable to get rid of problematic countries should be the reason to reassess the Accession Treaty based on which Slovakia joined the EU in May 2004. “We do not oppose helping other countries, but only if the aid is efficient,” said Danko, adding that SNS is well aware of the obligations based on EU membership. He also admitted the European Union brought Slovakia some benefits. “However, we oppose the servility of the incumbent Slovak government toward Brussels, we oppose loyalty to Eurosocialists and nodding their proposals by us even though their populist solutions do not suit our citizens,” states Danko.
Danko says the EU is like a sinking Titanic and underlines that the financial stability mechanisms won’t rescue this ship in the waters of the financial crisis. “To the contrary, instead of helping countries in danger, it will endanger other countries with healthy economies until now,” he says, asking whether European institutions have any clue about solutions for a common European future. As he adds, there is a conspiracy in the EU, a group of individuals who intentionally lead the grouping towards destruction.
