SMK Would Make it to Parliament, SMER-SD Remains Dominant

BRATISLAVA, September 29, (WEBNOVINY) – If parliamentary elections were held this month, the Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) would get eight seats in Slovak Parliament, reaping 5.3 percent. This ensues from research carried out by the Focus pollster among 1,004 respondents on September 6-13. However, the non-parliamentary party SMK lost 0.5 percentage points versus July.

The opposition SMER-SD remains the strongest political party, with 43.1 percent. The Robert Fico party bolstered 1.4 percentage points from the July survey and would occupy seventy seats in parliament. The presently strongest member of the ruling coalition, SDKU-DS, would garner 12.8 percent, translating into 21 parliamentary mandates. Its popularity rose by 0.2 percentage points from July. The KDH slipped from 11.7 percent in July to 9 percent, which would secure fifteen seats. The opposition SNS gained ground substantially, rising from 5.8 percent to 8.5 percent. The party would thus have fourteen deputies. The SaS, too, cemented its position from 6.1 percent to 8 percent and would have 13 representatives. Then again, the MOST-HIS tumbled from 6.9 percent in July to 5.9 percent and would obtain nine mandates.

A total of 17.6 percent would not go to cast their ballots and 16.2 percent either could not or did not want to say which party they would vote for. The popularity of political parties has been calculated based on answers given by the remaining 66.2 percent of respondents, potential voters.
