BRATISLAVA, March 29, (WEBNOVINY) – Based on results of the latest survey of political preferences by Focus agency, the opposition SMER-SD led by Robert Fico would be able to form a government alone. The March survey results show that Slovakia’s strongest political party would win 44.8 percent of the vote, representing 76 seats in the 150-member strong parliament. In March, the party improved 1.6 percentage points from February.
The ruling coalition member SDKU-DS would come second with 16.5 percent support, that would secure 28 deputy mandates for the party. MOST-HID would be third with 7.9 percent and 13 deputy seats. The third coalition member SaS would gain 7.1 percent of the vote, which is two percentage points down from a month ago. The party would have 12 seats in the parliament. Christian-Democrats (KDH) would garner 6.3 percent, which is by nearly four percentage points less than in February, and represents 11 deputy mandates. The parliamentary opposition SNS party moderately improved its result from the previous survey, garnering 6.2 percent of the vote.
Nearly 68 percent of the electorate would participate in the elections. 17.5 percent of those polled would not take part in the elections, while the rest were undecided or did not want to say.
Focus surveyed 1,025 respondents between March 1 and 8, who responded to a question which party they would elect from a provided list if parliamentary elections were held the coming weekend.
