Slovakia's May Trade Surplus Revised down to EUR 140.2M

BRATISLAVA, August 9, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovakia’s trade balance in May posted a surplus of EUR 140.2 million. The Statistics Office of the Slovak Republic revised downward the original trade balance figure for the fifth month by EUR 56.2 million. According to revised data, the January-May trade balance was positive EUR 626.6 million, up EUR 74.3 million from a year ago. In May, total exports went up 20.9 percent to EUR 4.856 billion compared with the same period a year ago. Imports swelled 19.4 percent to EUR 4.716 billion as of late May.

Slovakia had the highest active balance with Germany of EUR 1.072 billion in the January-May period. Next was Austria with EUR 981.7 million and the Czech Republic with a surplus of EUR 883.7 million. On the other hand, Slovakia reported the widest trade gap with Russia of EUR 1.7 billion. The Korean Republic with EUR 1.462 billion was next.

Considering the structure of goods, exports of passenger cars and other vehicles for passenger transport went up the most, by EUR 857.4 million. Exports of crude oils and oils from raw bitumen minerals increased by EUR 441.3 million. Exports of car components and accessories rose EUR 223.5 million. Exports of components of devices for transmission of radio or TV broadcasting dropped the most by EUR 174.7 million. With regard to Slovakia’s most important trade partners, exports to Germany went up 31.7 percent.

With regard to the structure of imported goods, imports of motor vehicle parts, components and accessories by EUR 369.6 million while exports of crude oils and oils from raw bitumen minerals swelled by EUR 353 million. Imports of components of devices for transmission of radio or TV broadcasting posted the biggest fall of EUR 294.6 million. Considering most important trade partners, imports from Germany went up 21.9 percent and from Russia 38.9 percent.
