Slovakia has Freshly Trained Green Berets for NATO Service

LEVICE, July 1, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovakia has 150 new elite soldiers trained to serve in NATO military operations. Members of the 13th mechanized company in Levice finished training on Friday for deployment in NATO rapid reaction corps and became holders of green berets. They will operate under a British battalion that can summon them to an allied military operation anywhere in the world. „Green beret means the first league while these soldiers are now the best trained and prepared unit within ground forces,“ said Colonel Zoltan Ibos.

The company has to be on combat readiness starting from January 1, 2012. By then, they will work on improving their combat abilities and collective spirit. It took two years to pick the elite soldiers who had to pass demanding medical and training tests. “After two years, it will be clear who is qualified for the job and who is not. They have to be prepared for real combat, as even the smallest mistake has fatal consequences.

Alongside the Levice-based company, also a 600-strong battalion from Martin which si to be deployed in Afghanistan can be proud of its green berets. The Levice unit can be deployed exclusively in an allied military operation if an unexpected crisis arises, added Ibos.
