Slovakia and Italy Might Start Nuclear Energy Cooperation

BRATISLAVA, January 28, (WEBNOVINY) – Slovak experts might advise Italians in the area of nuclear energy. Italy is planning to build four nuclear plants within renewal of nuclear energy sector in the country. The Slovak Economy Ministry reported after the talks of Director General of the Energy Department Jan Petrovic with President of the Italian Nuclear Safety Agency Umberto Veronesi that cooperation of scientific institutions in nuclear energy use, security and research might be established. Italian experts find experience of Slovak experts in recovering nuclear energy in the country interesting, too.

Economy Minister Juraj Miskov plans to discuss potential cooperation of the two countries in the energy sector with his Italian counterpart Paolo Romani. The ministers should sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Economic and Energy Cooperation. The ministers are to debate also cooperation in the car industry and influx of new investments to Slovakia, the Slovak economy department added. The Slovak delegation has already held talks with Giuseppe Nucci, head of the company Sogin, as well as senior representatives of Enel. Sogin is the administrator of nuclear facilities in Italy.

Italy is one of Slovakia’s most important trade partners. By the end of September 2010, turnover reached EUR 3.11 billion, on exports worth EUR 2.01 billion and imports worth EUR 1.1 billion. In yearly terms, the volume of exports rose 20.6 percent in the first nine months of 2010, and imports grew 4.8 percent. Active trade balance swelled 47.3 percent.
