BRATISLAVA, September 2, (WEBNOVINY) — The average nominal wage of an employee in the Slovak economy was EUR 758 in the second quarter of this year, up 3.6 percent from a year ago, informed the Statistics Office on Thursday. The real wage grew 2.4 percent in the monitored period. Seasonally adjusted nominal wage rose 0.9 percent y/y in the second quarter.
Employees in financial and insurance services were paid the highest average nominal monthly wage, namely EUR 1,517. The average wage reached EUR 1,368 in ITC sector, EUR 1,285 in electricity and gas supplies and EUR 1,003 in the public administration and the defense sector. The lowest wage was traditionally in accommodation and hospitality services at EUR 476 and EUR 544 in the farming sector, forestry and fisheries.
The quickest relative growth of the average nominal wage was seen in the sector of water supply amounting to 9 percent. The wage growth represented 6.5 percent in accommodation and hospitality services, 6.2 percent in industrial manufacturing and 5.8 percent in supplies of electricity, gas and steam. In contrast, it dropped in mining and extractive industries by 3.6 percent, 2.5 percent in the farming sector, forestry and fisheries and 1.8 percent in financial and insurance services, 1.4 percent in administrative services and 0.5 percent in other activities.
Over the first half of this year, the average nominal monthly pay of an employee in the Slovak economy posted a total y/y increase of 2.8 percent to EUR 741. The real wage went up 2 percent.
