BRATISLAVA, September 26, (WEBNOVINY) – Jan Slota, who was reelected as the Chairman of the Slovak National Party (SNS) on Saturday, said he was not jumping for joy. As he stated on STV, to be the core target to all is neither joy nor a privilege. He made up his mind to run for the post because chairpersons of district organizations, other members of SNS and representatives of the opposition as well as coalition asked him to do so. “They were just terrified by the idea that someone else, maybe in skirt, could sit on the chair of the party leader,” he added. Slota wants his party to push for its values and goals in a more radical way.
The re-elected head of SNS is convinced that the party collected two or three percent more in the parliamentary elections than the official data claimed, hinting at manipulation. Slota noted that the physical-counting figures from 130 district commissions differed from data compiled by the Central Election Commission; however, SNS did not address the Constitutional Court over this issue because the piece of information was acquired too late and SNS missed the deadline for the submission. The party leader opines that Slovakia’s intelligence service the SIS should be asked about it, because it has detailed information. “No one will want to change this percentage rate after the elections,” he is convinced.
Slota blames a “ferocious and fierce” media campaign led against his person and family for 2.5 years for the losses SNS faced in June’s elections. All senior party members should feel responsible for the fall. “If I had been the reason for the decline, I would not have collected the most preferential votes,” he argues. The SNS chairman is positive that the eyes of Slovaks will open, particularly with regard to the ruling coalition.
