CIERNA NAD TISOU/DOBRA, January 21, (WEBNOVINY) — On Friday, representatives of the Russian company TransContainer received the first 33 modern container railway cars from the Slovak wagon producer Tatravagonka in the combined transport terminal in Cierna nad Tisou. Russian TransContainer, a subsidiary of Russian railway transport operator ordered 300 such railway cars from Tatravagonka.
„This wagon enables to increase the transport capacity by about 800 tons per train 1,000 meters long. It is produced in the Tatravagonka facility in Trebisov, which has a broad-gauge railway line . The volume of the contract is 300 cars thus far,“ said Chairman of the Tatavagonka board of directors Alexej Beljajev. The handing-over ceremony was also attended by Slovak Transport Minister Jan Figel (KDH) and president of the Russian Railway Vladimir Yakunin.
Beljajev added that the company is currently working on further prototypes of wagons and chassises for the Russian railway company. In May 2011, another prototype of roofed wagon destined for transport of piece palleted goods sensitive to weather conditions will be handed over to the Russian client.
Tatravagonka has sighed three contracts on cooperation including the one on supply of about 1,200 railway cars on the Russian market with the Tichvin plant.
Tatravagonka was established in 1922 as a locksmith manufactory called Halath a spol. It started to make first two-axle railway cars in 1937 and was nationalized eleven years later. In 2006, the company Optifin Invest acquired the firm and became its sole stockholder. At the end of 2009 it merged with Vagonka Trebisov.
