BRATISLAVA, April 11, (WEBNOVINY) — Opposition SMER-SD nominee Roman Sipos, who has been the head of the Public Procurement Office (UVO) since July 7, 2010, decided to leave his office as of April 11. Sipos made this decision after Prime Minister Iveta Radicova criticized the office’s functioning after the session of the Coalition Council last week. Sipos informed Speaker of Parliament Richard Sulik of his resignation, as in the amendment to the law on public procurement, in force from April 2011, parliament both names and withdraws the UVO head at the Cabinet’s proposal.

“Holding the office of the UVO head is a challenging and responsible function. Since taking up this office, I always acted in a standard way to protect the public interest. I’m convinced that I made no mistakes consciously. The situation that occurred confirmed for me that I am unable to act otherwise if I want to maintain my human values and principles,” emphasized Sipos. Prime Minister Iveta Radicova criticized the fact that that the Public Procurement Office canceled over one hundred cases of public procurement from about two hundred applications it received under the new leadership.
