BRATISLAVA, January 14, (WEBNOVINY) – Growth of prices in Slovakia accelerated at the end of last year. According to Statistics Office data, inflation measured by national methodology reached 1.3 percent in December, which was 0.3 percentage points more than in November. On average, consumer prices last year rose by 1 percent compared to 2009. In a month-on- month comparison in December, consumer prices rose by 0.3 percent, which was the same rate as November compared with October
Year-on-year in December, prices of food and soft drinks increased by 6.2 percent, education 4.5 percent, miscellaneous goods and services by 1.9 percent, alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 1.7 percent, health care services by 1.6 percent, hotels, cafes and restaurants by 1.4 percent, recreation and culture by 1.2 percent and transport by 0.3 percent. Prices of furniture, household equipment and routine household maintenance by 2.4 percent, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 0.8 percent and clothing and footwear, postal and telecommunication services by 0.1 percent.
In December compared with November, prices increased in transport by 1.1 percent, food and soft drinks by 0.8 percent, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels and recreation and culture by 0.2 percent and prices in hotels, cafes and restaurants by 0.1 percent. Prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco, furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance grew by 0.3 percent. Prices remained at the November level of clothing and footwear, health care services, postal and telecommunication services, education and miscellaneous goods and services.
Core inflation, which monitors consumer prices excluding administered prices and administrative interventions in taxation, accelerated in December from November’s 1.5 percent to 1.9 percent. Net inflation, which disregards the development of food prices, accelerated year-on-year from November’s 0.4 percent to 0.6 percent. For the full year 2010, core inflation was 1.2 percent on average and net inflation was 0.9 percent. On a monthly basis, core inflation was 0.3 percent in December and net inflation was 0.1 percent.
