BRATISLAVA, September 27, (WEBNOVINY) — Prime Minister Iveta Radicova will negotiate with the liberal member of the governing coalition, SaS, on terms under which they would support the extended European Financial Stability Facility. “There is the [SDKU-DS] leadership proposal and in addition to it a full mandate for me to continue negotiations with SaS on further possibilities and searching for solutions. We will negotiate,” Radicova told the reporters after session of the party leadership. She also noted that it is her interest to accept all obligations responsibly and in the interest of Slovak citizens.
Radicova also announced that next Tuesday, October 4, a Coalition Council meeting to deal with two major issues is to take place: proposed 2012 state budget and important employment legislation.
The strongest ruling coalition party, SDKU-DS, has offered its coalition partners an amendment to the coalition treaty dealing with adopting the extended European Financial Stability Mechanism. As SDKU-DS Chairman Mikulas Dzurinda informed after the leadership session, with signing the amendment the coalition partners would commit themselves to provide support for the EFSF in parliament together with support for the Cabinet draft amendment to the law on specific government guarantees. According to the draft, the Cabinet and the parliamentary Finance and Budget Committee would make decisions on all new obligations based on the stability mechanisms. Dzurinda informed that the party leadership adopted the proposal unanimously. He also said that the draft amendment to the coalition treaty gives the agreement a hallmark of seriousness with the partners agreeing on something new. “With the coalition treaty we offer giving up some of the important competencies of the finance minister who is a SDKU-DS nominee,” said Dzurinda.
