PM Radicova Meets with Representatives of NGOs

BRATISLAVA, October 22, (WEBNOVINY) – Prime Minister Iveta Radicova met on Friday with a working group composed of representatives of non-governmental organizations. They discussed a draft prepared by NGOs on establishment of the post of a plenipotentiary for the civic society and his/her basic tasks. The PM and people from the non-profit sector agreed that the future plenipotentiary should document in detail problems and the environment of the civic society, support partner communication between the public administration and the citizens and participation of the active public including NGOs in resolving problems of the society and adoption of decisions in the public sphere. Part of this process is also preparation of a plan of the long-term development of the civic society including models of support to the non-profit sector.

Radicova decided that she would submit the draft to her coalition partners. Based on their blessing, a standard process of creating the new post would be launched. Radicova underscored that the non-government sector and active citizens are important partners for the government in managing public affairs in terms of fulfilling its program statement. She added that the post of an appointee for the civic society is part of strategic plans to effectively plug the public into creation and implementation of public policies and to create stimulating conditions for activities of non-governmental organizations.
