PM Meets with Nine Ministers over EU Funds and Employment

BRATISLAVA, November 15, (WEBNOVINY) – Slovakia will work to tidy up the situation related to the EU fund drawing. Prime Minister Iveta Radicova announced following a series of meetings with nine ministers and the head of the Cabinet’s Office that Slovakia does not have a good reputation regarding this matter. She referred to a recent article in the New York Times, which used Slovakia to illustrate problematic use of EU funds.

Individual ministries will have to table concrete analyses of existing projects in terms of target groups, namely what effects they will have on citizens. Projects that will bring nothing positive for the country will be scrapped and the respective money will be reallocated. These funds should be used particularly on construction of highways and dual carriageways and to bolster employment.

The informatization of the society will undergo changes, as well. Radicova announced that all contracts will be revaluated. Some were already nullified, while talks about others are underway. The prime minister prepared more tasks for her team. For instance, the Ministries of Transport, Finance, Agriculture, Economy, Labor and Environment are to forge specific projects and programs to boost employment by late November. It is suggested that these initiatives be evaluated on a quarterly basis.
