BRATISLAVA, September 8, (WEBNOVINY) — The number of registrations of new passenger cars and small utility vehicles of up to 3.5 tons in Slovakia reached 43,311 in the first eight months of this year, reported the Association of Slovak Automotive Industry (ZAP). Compared with the same period a year ago, the number of new registrations shrank by 35.14 percent. However, last year was specific, the association commented, as nearly 33,000 new cars in the eight-month period were registered within the anti-crisis state scrapping subsidy provided for the purchase. After deducting these cars, the y/y increase this year would represent 28 percent. In August alone, 5,624 new cars in this category were registered, down 23.8 percent y/y.
Skoda remained the best selling car brand in Slovakia, assuring its dominant position with an 18.55 percent market share. Renault placed second with a market share of 7.65 percent, and Volkswagen made it to the third position with 7.11 percent. Peugeot occupies the fourth position (6.6 percent), followed by Citroen (6.32 percent), Kia (5.93 percent), Hyundai (4.89 percent), Suzuki (4.50 percent), Toyota/Lexus (4.27 percent), Fiat (4.23 percent), Ford (4.14 percent), and Opel closed the top twelve with a share of 3.45 percent.
