BRATISLAVA, May 16, (WEBNOVINY) — As of late March, Offices for Labor and Social Affairs registered 111,100 unemployed persons aged between 20 and 29, which made them the most populous unemployed group. The second largest group of jobless people was aged 30 to 39, featuring 92,200 people. 84,600 people were without jobs in the age group 40-49. 88,800 people did not have jobs in the age group of 50 to 59. The category of jobless people up to the age of 19 listed almost 7,700 people, and over the age of 60 nearly 8,100 people. This stems from detailed quarterly statistics on unemployment in Slovakia released by the Central Office for Labor, Social Affairs and Family.
The highest number of young unemployed between the age of 20 and 29 is in eastern Slovakia, in Presov County (24,400) and Kosice County ( close to 21,000). Bratislava, Trnava and Trencin Counties register the lowest number of young unemployed people. In Bratislava County, it was almost 5,100, in Trnava County almost 8,400 and in Trencin County 9,600 jobless people in the 20 to 29 age group.
In March 2011, unemployment in Slovakia remained at its six-year peak, reported the Central Office for Labor, Social Affairs and Family. In month-to-month terms, the rate of registered unemployment dropped by 0.03 percentage point to 13.13 percent. However, this still us the highest unemployment since January 2005. As the Office further informed, unemployment rose by 0.25 percentage points year-on-year.
The overall number of job applicants recorded by labor offices was 350,328 in March. This is a month-on-month drop of 641 people and a year-on-year increase of 4,261. At the end of March, the rate of unemployment calculated from the overall number of registered job applicants was 14.71 percent. It thus dropped by 0.11 points from the previous month, while in year-on-year terms it rose by 0.06 percentage points. The overall number of job seekers in March reached 392,483 persons, which is a drop of 2,962 from February and of 1,254 less from a year ago.
