BRATISLAVA, November 9, (WEBNOVINY) — The dominant power producer Slovenske Elektrarne (SE) invested EUR 500 million in modernization of two units of the V2 power plant in Jaslovske Bohunice over the past years. The power producer increased the installed capacity of each unit from 440 MW to 505 MW after completion of the modernization project. “Slovenske Elektrarne fulfilled one of its long-term goals to secure safe and effective electricity supply via modernization and increase in output of the power plant in Jaslovske Bohunice, which will help to secure energy security for Slovakia,” said the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Slovenske Elektrarne, Paolo Ruzzini.
Slovenske Elektrarne stated that implementation of the program of modernization and increase in the V2 installed capacity improved the power plant’s level of nuclear and technical safety, operational reliability, preparedness for emergencies, and operational efficiently. “We will produce enough electricity to secure valuable basis for research and development thanks to investments in the most modern systems and components,” said Ruzzini.
The Jaslovske Bohunice nuclear power plant is situated in western Slovakia near the city of Trnava. Nuclear power is generated in two units, which were connected to the power grid in 1984 and 1985. The V2 power plant is one of the most economical sources of the joint stock company Slovenske Elektrarne generating electric energy.
Slovenske Elektrarne is the biggest power producer in Slovakia and the second biggest electricity producer in the CEE region. Since it was privatized in April 2006, Enel S.p.A has controlled 66 percent of company’s shares while the remaining 34 percent is in hands of the government privatization agency National Property Fund SR. Slovenske Elektrarne operates 5,683.4 megawatts of installed capacity. It specializes in generation, sale, import, export and distribution of electric energy as well as production and sale of heat. SE operates two nuclear power plants, two thermal power plants, and 34 hydropower plants.
