MEDIAN SK Survey of Political Popularity

BRATISLAVA, December 6, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovakia’s strongest opposition party SMER-SD would enjoy greater support of the electorate at the turn of October and November than a month earlier. This stems from results of a survey of political preferences carried out by MEDIAN SK. Between late September and early October, SMER-SD would garner 36.2 percent of the vote, while it would be 39.5 percent based on the latest survey. The ruling coalition member SDKU-DS would come second with 18.2 percent, which has been maintaining a stable support of around eighteen percent in MEDIAN SK’s surveys since August.

MEDIAN-SK interviewed 1,045 respondents aged 18 to 79 within its public opinion poll carried out between October 11 and November 7. Respondents were also asked to answer the question: “If the parliamentary elections were held tomorrow, would you participate in the ballot? A total of 40.8 percent of respondents confirmed that they would definitely participate in the elections, and 28 percent said that they were more decided to go than to stay away from the elections. 6.7 percent said they would rather not cast their ballot, 21.9 percent would certainly ignore the elections and 2.6 percent were undecided.

The support for the ruling coalition partner KDH moderately grew from the previous survey to 11 percent, while the support for the SaS party slipped to 8.1 percent. The non-parliamentary SNS would get 7.8 percent and thus make it to Parliament, along with MOST-HID with its 7.7 percent. The non-parliamentary parties LS-HZDS, KSS, SDL and SMK would remain outside the parliamentary doors with 3.1 percent, 1.2 percent, 1.1 percent, and 1.0 percent, respectively. The survey results reflect answers of respondents who did not rule out their participation in the elections and know whom they would support.
