BRATISLAVA, January 19, (WEBNOVINY) — In its election campaign, KDH will offer a way out of the crisis based on work. Christian Democrats’ white team launched its campaign on Thursday, when party chairman Jan Figel, wearing a white jacket, hat, and a scarf symbolically unveiled their billboard with slogan “Stronger Slovakia – It Starts with Work” next to the KDH central office building in Bratislava. “Every serious human effort or endeavor starts with honest and hard work,” stated Figel. According to him, it is important that Slovakia fares better in employment and economic development. “KDH offers an alternative of responsible path for free people,” stated the KDH chairman, adding that for example in Germany developing, such path has been very successful. “We offer this past as a better alternative to Socialist trends, which lead to debts and defaults,” said Figel, pointing at collapsing Greece. His party decided to chose white color for their campaign as an antipode to Socialist red as well as a symbol of catharsis of public life, of transparency and renewing people’s trust in institutions and politics. Figel also reminds their voters of the medieval slogan “Ora et labora,” pray and work, which, he said, reminds us that it is a proven approach to build upon faith, traditions, and honest work.

KDH’s election program is based on its economic part which consists of three pillars: support for labor policy, consolidation of public finances, and supporting self-employed persons and small family companies. “If those decent don’t do well, if huge amounts of funds are defrauded or lost, economic prosperity cannot do well,” commented Figel on the efforts to consolidate public funds. Figel would like to utilize his experience from the Transport Ministry where action had to be taken in order to continue construction of highways, revitalizing the railway companies and stopping them from accumulating more debts. According to Figel, reforms at the railways saved the jobs of 30,000 people.

He is also convinced that the key to more jobs is fighting corruption, as once public life is purged, more jobs and better perspectives should open. Figel says that Slovakia is among the least effective EU member countries in tax collection together with Greece and thus these indicators need improvement as probably some one billion euros remain uncollected on VAT every year. “It is a huge problem, honest people pay for those dishonest,” said Figel. KDH also plans to introduce a luxury tax, which increases fiscal revenues without affecting the poorest citizens.

The party plans to prefer billboards in its election campaign but will also focus more on direct communication with citizens and communication through social networks.
