Industrial Output in Slovakia in April Grew by 10.9 Percent

BRATISLAVA, June 8, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovak industry grew at a double-digit rate year-on-year in April of this year, when it strengthened by 10.9 percent. Compared with the previous month, growth slowed down, as in March output of the Slovak industry grew by 12.2 percent. Growth rate of industrial output in April was influenced by growth in manufacturing by 13.5 percent, and a decline in mining and quarrying by 6.6 percent in electricity, gas, steam and cooled air supplies by 3.2 percent, the Statistics Office reported on Friday.

The greatest contribution to growth in industrial output in April came from manufacturing of transport equipment that grew by 55.6 percent, manufacturing of metals and metal structures except machinery and equipment by 7.7 percent, in manufacturing of machinery and equipment not classified elsewhere by 9.2 percent, manufacturing of electrical equipment by 12.6 percent and in manufacture of textiles, apparel, leather and leather products by 8.6 percent. Volume production dropped mainly in the manufacturing of coke and refined petroleum products by 25.1 percent and in manufacturing of chemicals and chemical products by 32.2 percent.

In the structure of main industrial groupings, production of investment goods increased by 37.8 percent and production of intermediate goods by 2.7 percent. Production dropped of durable consumer goods by 10.9 percent, production related to energy by 9 percent and production of nondurable consumer goods by 4.2 percent.

Output in Slovak industry continues to grow despite the easing of dynamics at the end of last year. While in 2009, industrial production dropped by 13.7 percent due to a slump in external demand resulting from the economic crisis, in 2010 it again grew at double-digit pace. Last year it grew by 7.2 percent, mainly thanks to industrial manufacturing, as mining and energy production fell year-on-year.
