Industrial Output in Slovakia Grows 7 Pct in January

BRATISLAVA, March 8, (WEBNOVINY) –- Adjusted for working days, industrial output in Slovakia accelerated 7 percent y/y in January. For comparison, it grew a modest 0.8 percent in December 2011 and 0.6 percent in November.

Output from industrial manufacturing bolstered from December’s 2.7 percent to 3.1 percent over January. Behind the improvement was generation of electricity, gas, steam and cool air (+27.4 percent y/y), while a month ago output from energy production and supply was lower by 6.8 percent in annualized terms. Output from mining and extraction of raw materials sropped 8.4 percent y/y in January, which was the same result as in December.

Industrial output was most influenced by 21.2-percent growth in production of computer, electronic and optical devices. Production of textile, clothing, leather and leather products went up by 14.7 percent. Production of machinery and equipment not classified elsewhere surged 5.1 percent. On the other hand, output from metals and metallic structures apart from machinery and equipment shrank by 3.5 percent and production of transport means fell by 1.3 percent.

Output from energy sector grew 19.3 percent. Production of durable goods came up by 16.7 percent while non-durable goods grew 4.7 percent. Net of seasonal impact, industrial output grew 6.2 percent m/m in January 2012.
