Harmonized Inflation in August Stagnated at 3.8 Percent

BRATISLAVA, September 14, (WEBNOVINY) — Similarly as inflation measured by the national index, harmonized inflation in Slovakia was flat in August. According to the Statistics Office of the Slovak Republic, it remained at the same level as in July of 3.8 percent. The average annual inflation rate in August was 4.1 percent and thus month-on-month the 12-month average was also unchanged. Consumer prices measured by the European Union’s harmonized index (HICP) remained unchanged also in a monthly comparison. It thus remained without a change to for the second successive month.

In an annual comparison, in August, prices rising the fastest were in transport that were higher compared to last August by 7 percent. They are followed by prices in education, which rose by 6.1 percent, in health care by 6 percent, food and non-alcoholic beverages by 4.9 percent and miscellaneous goods and services by 4.4 percent. Prices have increased in housing, distribution of water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 3.8 percent, hotels, cafes and restaurants by 3.7 percent, alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 2.9 percent and recreation and culture by 1.7 percent. Slowest growth is reported of prices of clothing and footwear by 1.5 percent, posts and telecommunications by 0.8 percent and home furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance by 0.3 percent. Thus, all categories in the consumer basket became more expensive in a yearly comparison.
