BRATISLAVA, August 10, (WEBNOVINY) – Year-on-year growth rate of sales in industry in Slovakia in June slowed to 6.7 percent and in absolute terms they reached EUR 6.854 billion. In May, sales of industrial enterprises increased by 8.1 percent. Month-on-month, sales in Slovak industry in June compared to May decreased by 1.2 percent, the Statistics Office reported on Friday.
Development of sales in June in industry was affected mainly by growth of sales in the manufacturing of transport equipment by 26.6 percent, manufacturing of computers, electronic and optical products by 10.6 percent, production of basic metals and metal structures except machinery and equipment by 2.8 percent, food products, beverages, and tobacco by 3.5 percent and in manufacturing of wood and paper products and printing by 3.7 percent. Sales fell primarily in production of coke and refined petroleum products by 13.6 percent and other manufacturing, repair and installation of machinery and equipment by 12.5 percent.
In other sectors of the economy, sales continued to fall in the construction sector. Sales of construction enterprises in June were 728.9 million euros, down by 14.3 percent. Sales in transport and storage increased by 10.7 percent to 592.4 million euros. Year-on-year sales growth slightly accelerated in information and communication activity compared to the previous month. The achieved volume of 440.3 million euros was higher by 3 percent. Sales in selected market services continued to grow strongly. Compared to June 2011, they increased by 15.7 percent to 1.006 billion euros.
For the entire first half of 2012, sales in Slovak industry rose year-on-year by 8.1 percent to 41.14 billion euros. Sales increased mainly in the manufacturing of transport equipment by 27.2 percent, manufacturing of computers, electronic and optical products by 7.7 percent, basic metals and metal structures except machinery and equipment by 3.5 percent, generation in electricity, gas, steam and cold air by 1.6 percent, and other manufacturing, repair and installation of machinery and equipment by 4.8 percent. Lower sales were mainly in the production of coke and refined petroleum products by 15 percent and in manufacturing of chemicals and chemical products by 3.9 percent.
Turnover of construction enterprises in the first half of the year fell by 13.2 percent to 3.222 billion euros. In the transportation and storage sales totaled 3.292 billion euros on growth by 5.3 percent. Sales of information and communication activity increased by 6.7 percent to 2.471 billion euros. Total sales in selected market services rose by 17.2 percent to 5.583 billion euros due to growth in all involved activities.
