BRATISLAVA, April 17, (WEBNOVINY) – The current government has lost the mandate to rule due to the case of the lease on a building for the Tax Office in Kosice, stated deputy leader of the opposition SMER-SD party Marek Madaric. “The whole government is loosing the mandate, it is loosing its main topic; they indulge in cronyism, and are liars, ” Madaric stated in regular political debate program of TV Markiza titled Na Telo. According to him, the current coalition won voters’ support by making the fight against cronyism its main agenda, while the case of the lease on a building to the Tax Office from the company Nitra Invest, owned by head of SDKU-DS regional structure Ondrej Scurka and a Cypriot firm is “a brutal [example of] cronyism,” Madaric stated.
The SMER-SD deputy chairman further pointed out that Finance Minister Ivan Miklos (SDKU-DS) appointed his personal friend Miroslav Mikulcik to the post of head of the Tax Directorate, who then awarded a deal worth millions of euros to regional SDKU-DS official Scurka. Unless direct political responsibility is drawn, SMER-SD will initiate a no-confidence vote on the government.
SDKU-DS deputy Ivan Stefanec stressed that the lease case goes back to the previous election term and responsibility is on the side of former ruling coalition led by SMER-SD chairman and former head of the Tax Directorate Igor Sulaj. Shortly before the last parliamentary elections, a letter of intent with the company VSH Development was signed, which was by EUR 3.5 million more expensive than the contract signed by the new Tax Directorate management led by Miroslav Mikulcik and the company Nitra Invest. “This contract appeared on the net on April 1 and everyone had access to it. Everyone can compare whether it is cost-cutting or not. If there are doubts concerning the price, we can discuss it,” stated Stefanec.
