BRATISLAVA, October 24, (WEBNOVINY) – Robert Fico will run for the post of the chair of SMER-SD at the party congress due to be held on November 13 in Ruzomberok because, as he said, there is no other way for him. Talking in an interview with SITA news agency, the former Prime Minister said that he sees no other solution in terms of the commitment towards the voters of his party, pointing out that SMER won the June’s parliamentary elections with a strong result.
Party members at the congress will not only elect the chair of SMER but also vote to fill all other senior posts. Fico, currently serving as the Deputy Speaker of the Slovak Parliament, does not anticipate significant changes. In the interview he focused on the leadership, a body that makes decision on many important matters, and added that it should not undergo considerable changes.
According to the information available to SITA news agency, it is expected that some of the deputy chairs – SMER-SD has six of them – will end their service in these posts. Igor Federic, who was the chief of the Office of the Slovak Government during the previous election term, will allegedly be replaced by former State Secretary at the Finance Ministry Peter Kazimir, who presently sits in the Slovak Parliament.
