Slovakia is successful in reducing the quantity of nuclear waste produced by our nuclear power stations. While seven years ago two Slovak nuclear blocks produced 120 cubic meters of radioactive waste, at present it is only around 14 cubic meters. There are currently four nuclear blocks in operation in Slovakia, two in Jaslovske Bohunice and two in Mochovce. „Seven cubic meters can fit into a truck tank. This result was achieved mostly thanks to organizational measures such as introduction of strong waste separation. It is being considered how the spent fuel may be reused used in the production process. Many technical measures have been carried out,“ Director General of the Safety Evaluation Department at the Nuclear Regulatory Authority, Peter Uhrik, informed the portal vEnergetike.sk.
