Slovakia's Labor Market is Growing Stronger, says PM

BRATISLAVA, June 11, (WEBNOVINY)- Slovakia had 31,500 jobless fewer in the first quarter of this year compared with the same period of 2010, says Prime Minister Iveta Radicova. The unemployment rate for Q1 2011 dropped from 15.1 percent to 13.9 percent in annualized terms. “It is confirmed again that the labor market is recovering,” reads the prime minister’s stance provided to SITA newswire by the Cabinet Office. According to the prime minister the unemployment did not shrink artificially in Slovakia but it dropped due to the real increase in the number of working persons.

The increase in jobs also brought a drop in unemployment. The jobless rate dropped despite the fact that labor offices reported six-year highs in the number of jobless. According to the prime minister it means that the consequences of the crisis are fading away while the labor market is getting stronger. In the first quarter of 2011 the first decrease in unemployment rate was recorded since the beginning of the recession.
