BRATISLAVA, June 22, (WEBNOVINY) — The Slovak Parliament voted on Friday to approve the Treaty Establishing the European Stability Mechanism (ESM). As expected MPs gave their consent to the ratification of the so-called permanent bailout facility with a clear majority on Friday. After ratification of the treaty by the president, Slovakia will have definitely agreed with the establishment of the ESM. Of 144 MPs present in the 150-member Slovak Parliament, 118 proposal voted for the proposal, 20 members were against. There were five abstentions and one MP did not vote.
Parliament has buried Slovakia’s sovereignty and turned it into a state that has embarked on the path to economic slavery, stated the opposition SaS leader Richard Sulik after Slovak MPs approved the Treaty Establishing the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) earlier on Friday. Apart from the substance of the permanent bailout fund itself, the opposition leader also slammed the way of voting about the ESM treaty. “Pavol Paska trampled on democratic traditions. He refused to convene a deputy caucus and party leaders and in fact forced parliament to endorse the bailout fund. This is an extra black day for democracy and for Slovakia,” said Sulik. There was no reason to rush with voting also because in Germany as the strongest economy in Europe the Constitutional Court will look into the decision on the ratification of the bailout fund and until it decides the German president will not sign the document. “Germany has postponed the validity of the rescue mechanism but, unfortunately, deputies in Slovakia put their heads in a noose and approved the ESM treaty today,” he complained.
