BRATISLAVA, September 19, (WEBNOVINY) — Integration of environment into economic development and sustainable management of waters and water ecosystems are the main issues to be discussed at this year’s most important environmental conference to take place in the pan-European space. The three-day conference of environment ministers which is to start in the Kazakh capital Astana on September 21 in the framework of the process Environment for Europe is organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe in cooperation with Kazakhstan. The Slovak Republic’s delegation will be led by Environment Minister Jozsef Nagy.

Topical roundtables concerning issues of sustainable water management and water ecosystems are to take place parallel with the ministers’ conference. The Green Bridge Partnership Program focused on deepening cooperation and partnership between Europe, Asia and the Pacific Rim is to be presented at the conference. The conference should result in adopting a concrete proposal on improving the state of waters and water ecosystems through sustainable management, the Astana Water Action. The main output should, however, be a declaration signed by participating ministers on last day of the event, September 23.

The process Environment for Europe creates a broad platform for meetings of United Nations Economic Commission for Europe member states, NGOs, financial institutions, international organizations, regional environmental centers and the private sector. This year, twenty years of the EfE process, currently oriented at countries of eastern and southeastern Europe, central Asia and the Caucasus, are to be celebrated.
