BRATISLAVA, June 11, (WEBNOVINY) — As President of the Slovak Republic, Ivan Gasparovic has not yet officially visited Hungary. This could change following an invitation he received last week from Budapest, conveyed by the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Janos Martonyi to his Slovak partner Miroslav Lajcak.
„Since taking office in 2004, President Gasparovic has not yet officially visited Hungary,“ his spokesman Mark Trubac said for SITA news agency. The president has received the invitation from Martonyi, but according Trubac no date has been set. „Interest expressed by the foreign minister is sufficient and a more formal invitation is not required,“ says Renata Goldirova from the press department of the Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry. At this stage, diplomacy is at work, said Goldirova. „It is the task for the Slovak ambassador in Hungary, in cooperation with the Hungarian presidential office and the foreign minister to discuss the nature, date, and agenda of the visit,“ she said. The visit will take place as soon as the calendar is agreed on both sides.
Following his talks with Martonyi last week, Minister Lajcak welcomed the invitation of President Ivan Gasparovic for an official visit to Hungary.
