BRATISLAVA, May 4, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovakia will support the European Union – Russian Federation visa waiver, announced Speaker of Parliament Richard Sulik after his meeting with Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Sergey Mironov. He added that Slovakia will not stand in the way to the visa-free travel but reminded that this does not concern only Slovakia. The two officials also discussed potential investments in the wide-gauge railway that Sulik said would be an asset but Slovakia will not financially participate in it.
Both representatives agreed that Slovakia and Russia are reliable partners. “I voiced the opinion that Slovakia perceives Russia as a reliable and correct partner despite the gas crisis [from two years ago – SITA note],“ informed Sulik. Mironov is convinced about high potential of continuing cooperation. He said that seven billion dollars [in bilateral trade — SITA note] last year confirm that but added that this sum did not have to be the cap. He sees the future in regional cooperation. Mironov invited the Speaker of the Slovak Parliament to the forum on regional cooperation that will take place in Siberia in September.
