Rainy Weather Complicates Harvest in Slovakia

BRATISLAVA, July 28, (WEBNOVINY) – Rainy weather in recent days has slowed the harvest in Slovakia and decreased the quality of unsown crops. In spite of this, the harvest advanced at the beginning of last week in particular, when farmers harvested 81 percent of the total area of rapeseed. The Slovak Farm and Food Chamber (SPPK) reported that of the total sown area of winter barley, 82 percent has been harvested; in the case of spring barley, it is 62 percent. Fifty-eight percent of sown wheat area has been harvested, namely 971,000 tons of wheat.

The average harvest of wheat per hectare is 4.63 tons, which is an increase of nearly 34 percent from last year. The average per hectare harvest of rapeseed has grown 23.8 percent from last year to 2.44 tons.

Harvest has not yet begun in all parts of Slovakia. It will continue in northern regions of the country, which will also moderately decrease the per hectare harvest of individual crops.
