BRATISLAVA, July 12, (WEBNOVINY) — The first hundred days in government were for Prime Minister Robert Fico and his colleagues the most difficult in their political career so far. Fico said this at Thursday’s news conference, which he convened to look back at the first months of his second tenure as prime minister. He said his government did not take over Slovakia in a good condition. „For the preceding twenty months, we had in Slovakia a very unstable and wide right-wing government,“ said the prime minister and explained that because of this the government Iveta Radicova was unable to adopt the necessary decisions.
Fico spoke about four basic conclusions which he reached following an assessment of the hundred days of his government. „We have formed a stable structure of government and political power,“ he said. Stability, according to him, is what the previous government lacked. Fico also pointed out that they managed to create an effective mechanism of social dialogue and also highlighted the fact that in the first hundred days of his government, they prepared all the measures that will be essential for consolidation of public finances this and next year. „We all agree that consolidation of public finances is important and each government will have to do it,“ he said. His government, Fico says, is consolidating public finances while protecting the people at the same time. He criticized the opposition for its inability to offer any alternatives. „We have used these hundred days to restore Slovakia’s image of a reliable and predictable partner in international relations, particularly in the EU,“ said Fico.
