PM Fico is in Prague, Meets with Necas

PRAGUE, April 20, (WEBNOVINY)- Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico who is paying a one-day visit to the Czech Republic wishes local politicians who face the possible collapse of the rightist government’ that they succeed to resolve the tense situation. “I can do nothing else,” he stated after a meeting with his counterpart Petr Necas.

Fico did not want to comment whether he sees a certain parallel between the situation in the Czech Republic and the political situation in his country before the early elections. He however remarked that the March early race contributed to calming the situation. “The government has been formed and is going to apply for confidence,” he added. He underscored that his government is sending clear messages to the world about his plans. Fico is resolved to wage war on corruption underscoring that when he led the Cabinet in 2006-2010 he recalled eleven of his ministers.

Both prime ministers agree that relations between their countries are at higher than a standard level. “I highly esteem what relations are between the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic. I will do my utmost to maintain their quality and continue their improving,” said the Slovak prime minister. Bratislava is close to Prague regardless to which party is in power. “We have excellent level of relations in all spheres from economy to politics. It has nothing in common with whether the right or the left rules in Bratislava and Prague,” said Necas. The Slovak prime minister said he would be happy if the countries jointly commemorate the 20th anniversary of the foundation of the Czech and Slovak Republics and the 15th anniversary of the tradition of meetings of Czechs and Slovaks at Javorina.

Fico is paying his first ever visit to the Czech Republic since he took up. Prague was Fico’s first foreign destination also in 2006 when he became the prime minister for the first time. Fico also met with Czech President Vaclav Klaus on Friday and is yet to have talks with Bohuslav Sobotka, the head of the strongest opposition party CSSD.
