BRATISLAVA, November 4, (WEBNOVINY) — The Slovak Parliament did not elect the new prosecutor general in the second round of the secrete ballot, as no candidate received the majority of votes. 47 of the 144 deputies present voted for the candidate of three ruling coalition parties the SaS, KDH and MOST-HID Eva Misikova. 68 deputies supported the current Prosecutor General Dobroslav Trnka, nominated by SDKU-DS deputy Stanislav Janis and opposition deputy Mojmir Mamojka. 27 deputies did not vote, and two votes were invalid. A new election is to be held at the parliamentary session in December.

Parliamentary deputies for the strongest ruling coalition party the SDKU-DS announced prior to the vote that they would support neither the joint candidate of its three coalition partners Eva Misikova nor the incumbent Prosecutor General Dobroslav Trnka in the second round of the prosecutor general election in parliament. Head of the KDH deputy club Pavol Hrusovsky told journalists after the meeting of the Coalition Council that the coalition group is to table a preliminary result of further talks on the topic to the Coalition Council at its next meeting on November 12. Hrusovsky emphasized that the coalition still believes that the management of the Prosecutor General Office needs reform. “We will attempt to find a joint candidate”, he said.
