BRATISLAVA, February 17, (WEBNOVINY) — Parliamentary deputies opine that the current situation in the tax information system is even worse than the initial information indicated. The deputies agreed more after more than two-hour talks at a Bratislava Tax Office that the information system is in a critical condition and the management of the Financial Administration of the Slovak Republic refuses to admit that. “The situation is really critical and I regret that the top managers of the Financial Administration are unwilling to admit that. They have been convincing us for two full hours how everything was fine and almost in an optimal condition,“ said head of the Parliamentary Committee for Finances and Budget Jozef Kollar (SaS).

MPs of the committee visited some workplaces of the Tax Office where employees demonstrated currently applied work procedures. Kollar concluded that, based on survey outcome, the new information system of the Tax Administration does not work at all. “Nobody from the top management could assure us how long the manual regime of Slovak taxes administration will continue,” added Kollar. MPs therefore want to wait how the management of the Financial Administration will proceed in upcoming days and have not ruled out another audit. “I will summon another meeting of the financial committee after February 27 and it is not out of question that the deputy audit will have to take place again,” said Kollar on Friday.

Deputies agreed on the deputy audit at the Thursday session of the Committee for Finances and Budget. The information system of the tax administration has collapsed, according to opposition MPs. The Finance Ministry, however, argues that the system is just not working optimally, but will be fully operational. On Thursday, members of the Parliamentary Committee for Finances and Budget have also agreed that the Supreme Audit Office inspect observation of law within financial administration and they have asked head of the Cabinet Office for immediate inspection, too.
