BRATISLAVA, April 8, (WEBNOVINY) – The inspection of the Defense Ministry has filed a lawsuit in the case of the order for researching equipment and armament of the 21st century supersoldier on the suspicion of being unthrifty and non-transparent. As Defense Minister Lubomir Galko said at a press conference this Friday, the research was carried out between 2004 and 2010 and its results are ten samples that can in fact be bought commercially for less than 600,000 euro each. “The entire project cost 3.2 million euro. This money was thrown out, it is literally siphoning off taxpayers‘ money,” claimed the Minister. According to him, the result of the research was several pages of paper and samples of equipment.
According to Marian Majer, head of the MoD inspection, the entire project comprised of purchase of components and applied research. “The essential finding is that the results of the research are components that can be commonly bought at the market. There was no research. The results of the research are several pages which did not help with acquiring individual components,” he stated. Majer also said that the kits bought comprise of a ballistic vest, a rifle with accessories, night vision goggles with equipment, a wireless radio station, additional components, a knife, battery, hydrating system (bottle for water) and protective lens. The price of the knife was over 700 euro. According to Minister Galko, such expensive knife could also have an mp3 player.
The project was launched under the second government of Mikulas Dzurinda, when Juraj Liska was the MoD. Robert Fico Cabinet’s Jaroslav Baska continued it. According to the information brought by the media, the company Magic Trading Corporation was directly awarded the order.
