BRATISLAVA, January 17, (WEBNOVINY) — A survey of voter preference that the MVK Agency carried out between January 5 and January 11 on a representative sample of 1,154 respondents shows that if early parliamentary elections in Slovakia took place at the beginning of this month, KDH would receive more votes than its coalition partner SDKU-DS. While SDKU-DS was favored by 9.3 percent of the polled, 9.6 percent of respondents would support KDH. The opposition SMER-SD remained on top of the preference chart with 40.1 percent support of the electorate.
Two months before parliamentary elections, MVK asked respondents whether they considered voting in the parliamentary elections scheduled for March 10 of this year. Together 37.3 percent of the surveyed was determined to come to cast their vote and one-third was hesitant about their participation. “We assume based on the model arising from a comparison of survey data and actual turnout in past elections that the overall voter turnout will stand somewhere between 43 and 48 percent,” Pavel Haulik of MVK told SITA news agency.
Respondents determined to vote were also asked which party they would give their vote if the elections took place this coming weekend. Based on collected responses, six political parties would receive more than 5 percent of the vote required for entry to parliament. Following SMER-SD, KDH and SDKU-DS, MOST-HID (7.7 percent of votes), SaS [Freedom and Solidarity] (7.1 percent of votes) and Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (6.3 percent of votes) standing in the elections would also win seats in parliament.
If the early elections came off as the survey results show, SMER-SD would have 75 mandates, KDH would win 18 seats and SDKU-DS could have 17 MPs in parliament. Voters of MOST-HID would be represented by 15 lawmakers, Freedom and Solidarity could have 13 votes in parliament and twelve candidates of Ordinary People and Independent Personalities would also gain parliamentary privileges.
