ZILINA, January 14 (WEBNOVINY) — The KDH Council approved the election program titled “The Road for Slovakia – It Begins with Work” in Zilina on Saturday. Party leader Jan Figel announced at the following news conference that Slovakia needed to avoid politics of yesterday. “Our road begins with work. Work is important for the position of the individual, for the income of family and the development of the state,” he noted. The fight against corruption is the basic pre-condition for more work. “Thorough justice is the basis of every society,” Figel noted.
Christian Democrats built their revitalization program for Slovakia on three major pillars: stabilization of public funds and employment increase; support for sole-proprietors, small and family companies that will help increase employment and effective sectoral policies to bolster employment.
Slovakia’s public finances need to be revitalized. KDH managed to fulfill this task at the Transport Ministry. “We have replaced non-transparency with transparent competitions,” the party leader remarked. Should an increase in taxes or introduction of new levies be inevitable, Christian Democrats will advocate tax on luxury (luxurious goods) and higher gaming duties. These measures will neither hurt social vulnerable people nor jeopardize economic stabilization and employment growths.
Figel challenged opposition SMER-SD leader Robert Fico to a debate about his previous highway-related pledges and the present-day reality as well as economy, unemployment, social affairs and public funds, the reform of public administration and fight against corruption and criminality. Fico gladly took up the gauntlet. „We firmly believe that a medium that will organize this discussion will soon be found,“ SMER-SD spokesperson Erik Tomas stated.
