Growth Rate of Industrial Sales in July at Nearly 17 Pct

BRATISLAVA, September 11, (WEBNOVINY) – Sales in industry resumed a two-digit y/y growth in July. According to the Statistics Office year-on-year growth rate of sales in industry in Slovakia in the seventh month accelerated to 16.9 percent and in absolute terms they reached EUR 6.51 billion. It was the highest y/y growth since February 2011. Sales in Slovak industry in July compared to June surged by 2.5 percent, the Statistics Office reported on Tuesday. The data on the development of industrial output that soared 18.5 percent y/y published on Monday already indicated a similar development. Slovak industry was traditionally driven by car production also due to delayed firm-wide holiday.

Development of sales in industry over July was affected mainly by growth of sales in the manufacturing of transport equipment by 54.5 percent, manufacturing of metals and metal structures except machinery and equipment by 12.5 percent, manufacturing of computers, electronic and optical products by 20.6 percent, manufacturing of food products, beverages, and tobacco by 10.9 percent and in production of coke and refined petroleum products by 9 percent. Sales fell primarily in other manufacturing, repair and installation of machinery and equipment by 11.7 percent and in manufacturing of rubber, plastic and other non-metal mineral products by 2 percent.

In other sectors of the economy, sales continued to fall in the construction sector. Sales of construction enterprises in July were 715.9 million euros, down by 15.5 percent y/y and 1.7 percent m/m. Conversely, sales in transport and storage significantly increased by 17.5 percent to 607.8 million euros in year-on-year terms and went up 3.1 percent in monthly terms. Sales growth accelerated in information and communication activity compared to the previous year by 7.1 percent to EUR 407.4 million meaning a m/m increase of 1.1 percent.

For the first seven months of 2012, sales in Slovak industry rose year-on-year by 9.4 percent to 47.764 billion euros.
