BRATISLAVA, August 24, (WEBNOVINY) — On Wednesday, the Cabinet approved the proposal to elect parliamentary deputy for the SaS party Kamil Krnac to the post of National Security Office (NBU) head. Parliament is to hold the vote probably at the upcoming session in September.
Krnac was approved by all coalition parties as the fourth SaS candidate to the top post of the security office. The previous three candidates were turned down due to various objections voiced by the coalition partners. NBU is currently headed by Frantisek Blanarik nominated during the previous election term by the now non-parliamentary LS-HZDS party of Vladimir Meciar. SaS proposed Krnac to the post already on July 6, but he needed to get the highest security clearance first in order to be recognized as a candidate. If he is appointed to the post, Lubos Majer will replace him in the parliament.
Frantisek Blanarik announced his resignation in March, soon after the coalition shifted their focus on his past. The media informed that he allegedly had been reporting on his colleagues to the military counterintelligence when he served in the army before the Velvet Revolution in 1989.
