BRATISLAVA, June 6, (WEBNOVINY) — Social and cultural needs of members of the Roma community should improve thanks to the 833,878 euro that the Cabinet has recently allocated for related grants. The Cabinet published a call for submitting grant applications for support of social and cultural needs and for resolving especially disadvantageous situations of the Roma community. The coordinator of the call is the Office of the Cabinet Plenipotentiary for Roma Communities; the applications are to be submitted until August 3.
A grant can be given to an applicant who can prove that they have at least 5 percent co-financing for the project from either their own, or from other resources, Iveta Duchonova of the plenipotentiary’s office told SITA news agency. The applicants can ask for funds for establishing a community center, technical equipment for low-standard housing, repairs and reconstruction of homes, project documentation, support for establishing bus stops near Roma settlements and of establishing fuel storage facilities near low-standard housing facilities, as well as support of education and culture.
In 2010, over 900,000 euro was used for supporting social and cultural needs and for resolving especially disadvantageous situations of the Roma community; the amount was 1.2 million euro in 2009.
