BRATISLAVA, January 14, (WEBNOVINY) — The average harmonized inflation in Slovakia from January to December of last year reached 0.7 percent. According to data published by the Statistics Office of the Slovak Republic, the twelve-month average in December compared to November increased by 0.1 percent. In December alone, consumer prices according to the European Union methodology increased year-on-year by 1.3 percent. This is 0.3 percentage points more than in November. The highest year-on -year increase was in prices of food and soft drinks, by 6 percent, followed by prices in education, which rose by 4.5 percent, miscellaneous goods and services with growth of 2.3 percent, health care services by 2 percent, alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 1.7 percent, hotels, cafes and restaurants by 1.3 percent recreation and culture by 1.1 percent and transport prices were higher by 0.5 percent. On the other hand, prices decreased of furniture, household equipment and routine household maintenance by 2.4 percent, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 1.5 percent, and prices of clothing and footwear and posts and telecommunications decreased 0.1 percent.
In December compared with November, prices rose fastest in transport by 1.1 percent and food and soft drinks by 0.8 percent. Prices were higher also in recreation and culture by 0.2 percent, in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, hotels, cafes and restaurants, miscellaneous goods and services by 0.1 percent. In contrast, prices were lower of alcoholic beverages and tobacco, furniture and household equipment and routine household maintenance by 0.3 percent and also of health care services by 0.1 percent. Prices were unchanged on a monthly basis of clothing and footwear, posts and telecommunications and education.
