BRATISLAVA, February 21, (WEBNOVINY) – The registered jobless rate in Slovakia grew 0.10 percentage points in monthly terms in January to 13.69 percent, the Central Office of Labor, Social Affairs and Family reported on Tuesday. It was the highest level since June 2004 when it reached 13.91 percent. Unemployment grew 0.71 percentage points y/y at the end of the first month. The number of jobseekers able to take up a job immediately stood at 369,948 in the observed period, coming up by 7,520 from December and 23,752 from last January.
This January, 408,874 persons were jobless in Slovakia meaning a m/m increase by 9,074 and by 17,446 in year-on-year terms. The unemployment rate calculated from the total number of jobseekes reached 15.13 percent at the end of last month. Compared with December 2011 it went up 0.14 percentage points and 0.45 points from a year ago.
Last month over 35,300 persons registered with labor offices, up almost 8,600 from last December. Compared with January 2011 the number shrank by 273. Labor offices deregistered over 26,200 job applicants last month, which is a m/m increase of some 6,200. The outflow of registered jobseekers grew 1,100 y/y in January. The average period of registration of an unemployed person achieved 13.97 months in January. It increased 0.04 months on a monthly basis and went up 0.08 months y/y.
Over last month six counties reported higher jobless rate while in two counties unemployment dropped. Unemployment rate rose most considerably in Kosice Country by 0.37 percentage points to 19.3 percent. Trencin County follows with unemployment rate going up 0.23 percent to 10.18 percent. In Banska Bystrica County the jobless rate increased 0.22 points to 20.05 percent in the first month. Presov and Trnava Counties reported an increase in unemployment rate by 0.21 percentage points each. Presov County reported 19.16 percent jobless rate and Trnava County had it at 9.09 percent. In Zilina County the indicator grew 0.17 points to 12.08 percent. In Nitra County unemployment rate shrank 0.08 points to 13.19 percent and in Bratislava County the drop was 0.17 points to 5.24 percent.
