BRATISLAVA, September 20, (WEBNOVINY) — The unemployment rate in Slovakia in August reached 13.19 percent. In a monthly comparison, this is a decrease by 0.08 percentage points. The joblessness rate thus returned to the May level, which is the lowest so far this year. Compared with the same period a year ago, unemployment increased by 0.07 percentage points, according to data of the Central Office for Labor, Social Affairs and Family.
The number of jobseekers able to start working immediately reached 356,423 in the eighth month. Compared with July, their number fell by 2,229 but increased by 6,538 persons in yearly terms. The unemployment rate is expected to grow in September with regard to the expected registration of high school graduates at Labor Office.
In August, unemployment rate dropped in monthly terms in all counties but Bratislava County. Trencin County posted the biggest drop by 0.26 percentage points. Presov County reported the highest unemployment rate in August of 19.25 percent. Also Banska Bystrica County and Kosice County showed above-average unemployment rate 18.88 percent and 18.48 percent, respectively, the Central Labor Office reported.
