BRATISLAVA, February 3, (WEBNOVINY) — The railway network operator ZSR will give a facelift to the Bratislava Central Station using their own resources and capacities, Zuzana Chalupova of the ZSR communications department told SITA news agency. As both Bratislava and Kosice main railway stations will be used by fans arriving for the 2011 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, the company created a committee, which inspected the poor state of public spaces at the railway stations and the quality offered to travelers at both facilities. Following the inspection, ZSR will implement a number of modifications to increase passenger safety and improve overall sanitation of public spaces at the station and in its perimeter. According to Chalupova, some of the modifications are already being carried out.
Reconstruction of the Bratislava railway station fifth platform already started in December. Entrance doors on the building will be replaced; façades of the lobby and the surfaces in front of the building will be reconstructed. Additional minor reconstruction, upgrades and modifications are planned as well. During the championship, the railways will also increase intensity of cleaning the station. Bratislava city and the public transport company will install information boards, which should make orientation of the passengers easier.
