SURVEY: SMER-SD Still a Clear Winner

BRATISLAVA, August 13, (WEBNOVINY) — If parliamentary elections in Slovakia were held in July, all six political parties now represented in the parliament would affirm their positions. The opposition SMER-SD party would still have the biggest representation with 39.7 percent. The ruling center-right coalition members the SDKU-DS and KDH would win 15.3 percent and 11.7 percent, respectively. The coalition members and newcomers to parliament the SaS party and MOST-HID would garner 11.5 percent and nine percent, respectively. The opposition SNS party would get support of 5.1 percent of voters, thus only moderately exceeding the five percent threshold to make it to parliament. This stems from results of a survey carried out by MEDIAN SK agency between June 21 and July 18 on a representative sample of 1,084 respondents aged 18 to 79. The results of the survey feature responses of those polled who did not rule out their participation in the elections and knew who they would support.

The LS-HZDS would stay behind the parliament’s gates with three percent preferences, the SDL with 1.1 percent and the SMK with 0.9 percent. 68.3 percent of those polled said they would participate in the elections. 29.9 percent would not take part in the vote, and 1.8 percent were undecided.
