BRATISLAVA, November 7, (WEBNOVINY) — A survey shows that 24 percent of SMER-SD voters would welcome the next government to be formed by the duo of SMER-SD and SNS after early elections on March 10 of next year, 21.1 percent would like SMER-SD’s coalition with the KDH while 19.9 percent would be satisfied if their party allied with the SDKU-DS. The survey was carried out on October 20-26 by the MVK agency, in which the surveyed persons were to answer the question “What would be your attitude towards possible post-election coalitions?” The same variants dominated also among coalition preferences of the strongest party’s voters when 26.4 percent would opt for a SMER-SD – SDKU-DS coalition, 25.7 percent would prefer a coalition with the SNS and 19.9 percent a coalition with the KDH. However most SMER-SD voters would be happiest if their party did not need any coalition partners and form a government on its own.
Those polled could choose from three variants of answers: 1. I would welcome -accept such coalition (as lesser evil), 2. I would tolerate it (with grinding teeth) or 3. I would definitely turn it down. They could select from eight more-or-less probable coalitions – SMER-SD and SDKU-DS, SMER-SD, SDKU-DS and KDH, SMER-SD, SDKU-DS, KDH and MOST-HID, SMER-SD and KDH, SMER-SD and SNS, SDKU-DS, KDH and SaS, SDKU-DS, KDH, SaS and MOST-HID and SDKU-DS, KDH, MOST-HID and SMK. Of the same potential coalitions, they could pick the most preferred one and also assess how will the real ruling majority after the elections look like.
SNS voters have clearly closest ties with SMER-SD when 70.4 percent of them would hail coalition of these two parties, 90.5 percent would prefer it and 39.7 percent realistically expect it.
Among center-right parties KDH voters are closest to the idea of forming a coalition with SMER-SD – 30.5 percent would welcome it, 30.2 percent gave preference to it while 23.4 percent think that it will become a reality. KDH votes have similar attitudes towards a trio composed of SMER-SD, SDKU-DS and KDH when the share of sympathy, preferences and expectations is 21.3 – 29.4 – 21.3 percent. In contrast KDH voters are reserved regarding coalitions of center-right parties, Only one in ten KDH voters would welcome any of them, while one in three KDH voters is resolutely against such coalition while the presence of the SaS in them is not decisive.
Mainly voters of SDKU-DS are undecided in the relation towards potential coalitions. Regarding sympathies they moderately favor a coalition with SMER-SD (SMER-SD – KDH – SaS coalition with 16.4 percent or SDKU-DS – KDH – MOST-HID – SMK coalition 18.1 percent). But in the case of each considered coalition, the share of decisive opponents exceeds the share of sympathizers. Voters of SDKU-DS would most prefer a quartet SDKU-DS – KDH- MOST-HID – SMK (24.5 percent) but they realistically expect a coalition between SMER-SD, SDKU-DS and KDH (24.5 percent).
Among SaS voters, sympathizers of center-right coalitions clearly dominate. The coalition SDKU-DS, SaS and KDH is preferred by 40.6 percent of liberal voters though only 13 percent expect that this will be the winning post-election coalition. SaS voters are a little bit more reserved towards the replica of the outgoing ruling coalition of SDKU-DS, KDH and MOST-HID that has sympathy of 27 percent of SaS voters while 24.3 percent prefer it.
